Poetry Friday, Week 35: Summer Joy

Mona at Mona Voelkel is hosting Poetry Friday. She has a poem about a wishing rock.  I love finding them at the coast. 
We're closing in on the end of summer.  The days are shortening their hems. The sunlight has shifted.
And the last of the Summer Poetry Swaps have been exchanged. I'm sharing them today. I am always grateful for Tabatha Yeatts setting up these swaps.

I Told My Friend About My Trip to Scotland

I sailed across the Firth of Forth
or should I say the Frith of Froth...
Perhaps it was the Forth of Frith--
Yes! I thunk it was!

      Friend, if you mean the estuary
      A map just might be necessary--
      thoughFroth  of Forth or Fifth of Frith,
      is all the same to me.

Should we declare, amongst us two,
any name we like will do?
I'll show you all the shots I too
while on the Froth of Firth!

Long-distance call

In January, the wolf,
whose teeth and claws 
cover his terrain like wildfire, 

hears wind howl at the moon 
and watches snow harden to bone
while his belly is the sound of a stone 
falling down a well. 

Listening to the clamor of the wind,
he knows he must invite other teeth
to breach his territory, to lope footprintless 

across the grassless gray 
that he has marked at every entry point, 
to join him for a community kill. 
He cracks the icy air with a hot octave, 

a summons for harmony. 
The wind pauses its crying to the moon 
to transmit his proposition:

only we can save us.

Tilting Toward Light
for Jone MacCulloch 

facing the full light of love
hearts ablaze--sorrow and joy;
together they made a life,
a life of love and longing
to be free, to be set free


Each one of these poems connect with me.  They bring a lot of summer joy.
