Today Spiritual Journey Thursday is hosted by Margaret.  SJT is a monthly practice regarding our spiritual like.  It is usually held the first Thursday of the month. With the holidays, we agreed to share this week. Ruth at There is no such thing as a God-forsaken town is hosting Poetry Friday.
Picture"Love Endures #17". Mixed Media, Jone Rush MacCulloch. 2025
My One Little Word for 2026. My word for 2025 was DREAM. This past summer, a word started tagging along with me, and had me purchase small and tiny canvases to create little pieces of art with hearts to give to people and leave places. A couple hearts were left in Paris by a friend, My 2026 OLW word is LOVE.

For many years, I have photographed hearts in nature as signs of love in the world. And this fall The Clackamas County Arts Alliance accepted my collection, "Close to Nature’s Heart", showcasing hearts found in nature and inspired by nature with photography and mixed media art. Each piece will be paired with a poem.

Some of favorite quotes found:
  •  “Do all things with love” from 1 Corinthians 16:14.
  • "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive." - Dalai Lama
  • "Love is not only something you feel, it is something you do." - Mother Teresa

I love reading about the trails that lead to people's one little word. And your poem is a perfect call to action: "be the difference in someone's day."

What a delight, Jone, to share your heart art and poetry with so many! I love that Rumi quote -but even more in your poem that highlights WE are the bridges.

Thanks, Jone, for the lovely golden shovel, complete with a hint at the "Golden Rule." I need to try one of those form poems. Hearing about your project, I know we could have an interesting discussion about pairing art with poetry. I am working on a project now pairing my recycled collage with poetry. Hope you will share some of your work down the line.

Jone, your blog post is filled with love and each piece is lovely. I love Rumi and collecting quotes so your Golden Shovel is well-said with thoughts like Morning Meditation, morning as a bridge, and be the difference. Your mixed media, framed artwork is vivid with great colors and a wonderful title. I am up to neck in life and can't seem to get ahead so your post made me smile.

How wonderful to read of your 'heart art' bringing joy to so many, Jone. I've collected a few 'hearts' I've found when out walking, always a joy to discover! And the poem brings a smile to me as it will to everyone! I'm smiling for you!

Jone, Thank you for this beautiful poem. I love your project of documenting hearts in nature. It's as if, as it is, love is all around me. Love your poem and printing it out. I always mean to do a loving kindness meditation every morning but I never do but I feel like I can read this and it will remind me to send love every day! Thank you!!!

How special it would be to find a piece of your heart art! Love is an essential word. Simple, yet profound. Necessary, yet complicated. How do we love each other in such a broken world? Congratulations on your show. That has been a true work of your heart.

Hi, Jone! I think your work is perfect, and it found you very organically. Over the last year, I have felt your love through all your support. The Dalai Lama is an inspirational figure for me. Thanks for sharing the poem, too. Great work!

A perfect word. I love that love is a both a noun and a verb - it's a feeling, but also an action, and in this world, we need both!

Jone, this is so YOU! What a simple, profound and beautiful word to carry with you through 2026. And, the world sure needs it. Thank you for being a love-bearer, a love sharer, a love! What a fantastic journey. I look forward to seeing your stops along the way.

I really LOVE your OLW. I think I read this week that if someone cuts into you, may they find that you are made of love (I'm paraphrasing). How beautiful is that?

Love. If there was only one word in the world, this would be a good one for it to be. Thanks, Jone, and wishing you a love-ful year! xo

Jone, congrats on the acceptance of your collection! I cannot separate love from nature myself. To begin with, both call us to live more deeply and intentionally. The quotes are well-chosen and your golden shovel flows so naturally, which is no small feat; I find that form to be much more challenging than it looks.
