Welcome to Poetry Friday. I am so excited for today's prompt by our host Irene Latham: Poetry Roundup will be a "Moon in June" theme here at Live Your Poem! I can't wait to read your moon poems...and/or whatever else you choose to share! Her newest book about the moon comes out in August. Can't wait. I was born on a full wolf moon and that should explain everything. I watch the phases and love photographing the moon and creating art with a moon in it. (In fact, I wanted to have a piece for this Friday but, time got away from me). I found a draft of a moon poem from 2019. I wrote two versions then. Today I did a revision. There must have been some deep memory about writing those version in 2019. This year, I wrote this for my 70th birthday. I was lucky enough to see the full moon on the coast in January 2023. So unusual for a clear night. Be sure to find Irene's new book when it arrives in August. 6/29/2023 07:53:33 pm
So many lovely images, Jone. I especially like "I shadow danced in a calypso red dress along the tideline of driftwood and kelp." That feels like magic, to me.

I love how this wolf moon has become part of your identity, Jone! To end with "i was born singing" is just so rich and joyous - LOVE!

So cool, Jone! Your pantoum and revisions are rich with imagery and sounds and scents. The whole works. And your wolf moon personality is to be admired :) 6/30/2023 07:14:47 am
Oh, Jone - If you write a novel or memoir, your first sentence here would be perfect to start it off: "I was born on a full wolf moon and that should explain everything." Your poem - in its different forms, like the moon herself - is just gorgeous. Love everything about this post!! xo 6/30/2023 09:31:47 am
Born on a full wolf moon explains everything, love it, Jone, and your poems bring in so much joy, the gathering of rosemary, and on. So long ago, I was born the day before a full moon & the family told the tale that I couldn't wait because I wanted to see the full moon - ha! Family tales. 6/30/2023 10:29:13 am
I love the epic/mythical feel to your d3 poem, Jone. It feels so cinematic and heavy with meaning and history--but beautiful, too.

Your connection to the moon is powerful and deep. Makes me wonder what moon I was born under. Google has an answer for that: waning gibbous. And here's what that means for me: "Those born on a Waning Gibbous Moon are people who focus on analysis, introspection and understanding their own motivations and desires. They don't get excited as quickly as those around them, using more of their own conscience, value system and beliefs when taking an important step or making a decision." And THAT should explain everything for ME! (Wild how true it is!!!) 7/1/2023 06:18:40 am
Jone, these poems are all so lovely. I love the phrase "I was born / singing."

Hi Jone! I like that you were born singing and that you don't always follow the pack. Rosemary scones sound glè bhlasta. You made me curious so I looked up what the moon was doing when I was born and there was a solar eclipse the next day. I have no idea what that indicates about me, haha. 7/2/2023 09:15:52 pm
Gorgeous moon photos, Joan - and I can see that calypso red dress twirling in moonlight! 7/5/2023 07:35:42 am
Jone, your photos are stunning. I did use one of them in my PF post. Thanks for sharing your collage of moon poems as a daughter born on a wolf moon. 7/5/2023 03:34:13 pm
I love the song and singing carried through your poems and the enchanting pics too, thanks Jone! Comments are closed.
