Poetry Friday (Bàrdachd Dihaoine), Week 37, Poems in Scot Gaelic

9/15/2022

Picture
We're down under for Poetry Friday at  Kat at Kathryn Apel. She's catching us up on all her adventures of the last few months.

Are you interested in a poetry challenge?  The September #poetrypals challenge is the Definito, created by poet Heidi Mordhorst,

One thing I have done sporadically is to write short poems for Scot Gaelic translation.  I rely on my first Gaelic teacher, Cam.  And she sometimes checks with others.   I wrote two in response to two photos I took in Scotland.  Cam is very involved with The American Scottish Gaelic Society .  She's been so kind to promote my little poems in their quarterly newsletter.  I'm excited that my two summer endeavors will be publish in the September edition.

#2021NPM April 14:  A Scottish Gaelic Haiku

4/14/2021

Picture
Welcome to 2021 National Poetry Month. It's my fifteenth year of participating (some years better than others).
This year I'm taking a look at some previous poems that I enjoyed and will be revising.  Some have been on the blog before and others not.
I have  five great interviews lined up:
April 2 POETRY FRIDAY: ALLAN WOLF
April 9 POETRY FRIDAY: LISA FIPPS
April 16 POETRY FRIDAY: CHRIS BARON
April 23 POETRY FRIDAY:

JOANNE ROSSMASSLER FRITZ
April 30 POETRY FRIDAY: LITA  JUDGE

I love getting books into the hands of readers so there will be prizes for stopping by and saying hi.
So my April Poetry Project is to revisit and redux some previous poems.  I am not totally feeling it!
So I am changing it up. I am going to revise and redux some poems and sprinkle in new poems with it.  Today's is a response to the "Verse of Ages" prompt on April 8: 'sharp'.  It gives me an opportunity to play with my Scottish Gaelic.

And because there were challenges in the translation, it now says in Scottish Gaelic:

POETRY FRIDAY: Bliadhna Mhath Ùr (Happy New Year)

12/31/2020

Bliadhna mhath ùr, Scottish Gaelic for Happy New Year.  This week, New Year Postcards have begun winging their way across the country.  Today I'm sharing one for New York and one from Ohio.  I'll be placing these on my Poe-tree.

Poetry Friday: Oidhche Shamhna (Halloween Night)

10/29/2020

Picture
Did you know? Snèap (turnips) were the first Jack O' Lanterns.
Tuesday in Scottish Gaelic class, I found some Halloween phrases and worked to create a "found" poem with them.

If you ever want to know what ELL (English Language Learners) go through, I suggest learning a new language. I decided to record my poem. Halting, unsure, hesitant but I did it. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/eoxf6n8-pNo. Enjoy.

Head on over to Linda at TeacherDance who is hosting our Halloween Eve Poetry Friday posts.
Linda has a prose poem and another, "Sill Halloween". Enjoy.

WINNER, WINNER, PUMPIN PIE DINNER:  JAMA, you won a copy of THIS POEM IS A NEST.  Congrats!
