![]() We're down under for Poetry Friday at Kat at Kathryn Apel. She's catching us up on all her adventures of the last few months. Are you interested in a poetry challenge? The September #poetrypals challenge is the Definito, created by poet Heidi Mordhorst, One thing I have done sporadically is to write short poems for Scot Gaelic translation. I rely on my first Gaelic teacher, Cam. And she sometimes checks with others. I wrote two in response to two photos I took in Scotland. Cam is very involved with The American Scottish Gaelic Society . She's been so kind to promote my little poems in their quarterly newsletter. I'm excited that my two summer endeavors will be publish in the September edition. ![]() calanais stones hold stories of our ancestors © Jone Rush MacCulloch, 2022 ![]() cuibhlichean carbad a h-uile bleideag mheirge sgeulachd wagon wheels every rust fleck a story © Jone Rush MacCulloch , 2022 9/15/2022 06:00:48 pm
Your photos as standalones are beautiful, Jone (you see things from my perspective🙃) but your brief words add so much contemplation to the moment. Congratulations on their upcoming publication. 9/15/2022 07:52:19 pm
SOOO wonderful, Jone - you just rock yourself. Like those big Scottish rocks. And, you roll - like those rusty Scottish wheels. XO 9/15/2022 08:56:19 pm
I am so impressed with your study of this what seems to me a daunting language, Jone. It's intriguing to see and then enjoy the translation, too. Congratulations for your coming publication!

Congratulations on your poems being published in Gaelic! I'm so excited for you! Those two beautiful photos were two of my favorite photos that you took in Scotland! I love your poems and how each includes a form of the word-story, which is the perfect word for those photos. I admire you continuing to learn to speak and write in Gaelic. I like the sounds of the words in Gaelic, especially when sung. Thank you for including the website of the American Scottish Galic Society. Thank you for your photos, poems and inspiration. 9/16/2022 05:35:07 am
I love the idea of flecks of rust are a story. Congratulations on your publications. Such a gorgeous language, a mysterious one for me, too.

Jone, your new project is daunting but wonderfully creative: gorgeous nature photos, flowing poetry, and Scot Gaelic translations. Congratulations to you on your poems being published in the September newsletter.

oooooh! I recognize those beautiful wagon wheels. I'm a bit in awe of you learning gaelic. It's not an easy language...and you use it in poetry? Beautiful weaving of you as poet, photographer and language learner. 9/17/2022 09:12:10 pm
None! I’m delighted that your first poem is the one you sent on my poetry swap notebook. 😊 congrats on the publications. 9/18/2022 07:24:21 am
Jone, these are just stunning. So beautiful! One thing on my wish list for our Scotland trip was to show my sister some standing stones, but we didn't get to. (Though I've seen several on previous trips.) Congratulations on the publication of these beauties! Comments are closed.
