so glad to be here for Poetry Friday. This week Christie at Wondering and Wandering is hosting and she has a community poem, Poetry Is... After Tabatha set up the Summer Poetry Swap, she offered an opportunity for an extra exchange. I was glad to add Rebecca Herzog to the swap. Her poetry package arrived late last week. It included an erasure poem which was so fun. I love the painted bookmark and the bracelet/anklet made by her daughter. For a response, I decided to use the words for a Golden Shovel poem and use the final line as a final line as well. I have been working on ancestry puzzles of late so the words spoke to me in that way.
Let’s unravel the mysteries of generations working feverishly and wordlessly finding kernels of information to console those who believed the stories of the past. Love guided the ancestors’ choices. I am grateful to carry on the name. ©jone rush macculloch, 2021 Thank you, Rebecca for a wonderful swap that sparked this response. 8/12/2021 08:30:31 pm
Jone, you and Becky make a great poem swap pair. Her erasure poem and handmade gifts are wonderful, especially because they are related to family. How lovely to receive a bracelet from Becky's daughter. There are creative sparks in Becky's family. I do like how you responded with golden shovel that means something dear to you in your quest for learning more about your ancestral background. 8/12/2021 10:04:33 pm
Jone, I love the response you created from Becky's gift. I love the treasure that comes when a response is "sparked" as you said. Beautiful poem response. And lovely gift from Becky.

Becky's swap gifts bring lots of smiles, along with your poem, Jone. How grateful I am for the stories of the past that help us remember we, too, can keep going. 8/13/2021 11:15:02 am
What lovely gifts! I just happened this AM to be looking through a box of old photos and letters, and uncovered a few things from the past I'd forgotten or never knew, but within just one lifetime. To uncover generations, as in your poem, must be a fascinating search. Your poem is an excellent response to Rebecca's found poem.

What beautiful swap gifts, Jone. And I love your golden shovel, weaving new meaning around and through Rebecca's words. 8/15/2021 06:15:50 pm
Well, this is just full of delights all the way around! What a treat of bonus gifts you received from Rebecca/Becky, and your poetic response was so clever too.

Hooray! A bonus swap is an extra good swap--especially from Rebecca. 8/16/2021 06:59:36 pm
Yay! I am so glad that you enjoyed the swap! I love your golden shovel. I have been working on my own genealogy lately. Whenever I start to get frustrated at not finding anything, those little kernels of information keep me going. :) Have a good week!

Jone, you received lovely gifts from Rebecca and her daughter and I love how you responded by entwining her words with your words. I especially love these word choices "unravel the mysteries," "working feverishly," "finding kernels of information to console," and "Love guided the ancestors choices." Great way to end. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!
