Poetry Friday, Week 17, Poetry Friday Here!

4/28/2022

Picture
Welcome, welcome to Poetry Friday.  Our gathering place for poets and lovers of poetry.
I am thrilled to be hosting today.

I used this month to revise and work on my WIP.  It is based on the tragic and untimely passing of a student in 2004.  I was able to give his mom a draft of the book.  Her response made me feel that I had accomplished one goal.  Hopefully someday...

I started the month featuring the poem by Alana Devito which is in Imperfect II, edited by Tabatha Yeatts. Today I'd like to share my poem in the same book.  I have a copy of the book that I would like to send off to someone.

Copies of Imperfect II can be purchased at Amazon.

What a treasure for this mother. I hope your project grows legs. I'm an admirer of how you are dedicated to learning, practicing art and writing. You look wonderfully productive from here. Congrats on this milestone, no matter what the overall journey of the WIP is. After reading detail after detail of life in the 40s, I've come across a funny line in one of my Grandma's letter that makes me smile. She gave me a line! Woot!

Thanks for sharing your reflective, meditative poem (and the beautiful photo that goes with it), Jone. And congrats on finishing the draft of your WIP and getting positive feedback from your student's mom. April has been a productive month for you!

Thanks for hosting this week!

Jone, Your poem is beautiful and feels like a prayer with its gorgeous repetition. Your work in progress has already done its important work in the heart of Johnny's mom, and I hope that it continues to heal and do goodness in the world as do you. Thank you for hosting this final Poetry Friday of National Poetry Month. xo

Jone, your poem is so lovely! I can imagine saying it daily as a sort of affirmation. You've reminded me that I need to set aside some time to explore Imperfect II. Also, no matter what happens with your WIP, how wonderful that you were able to share it with your student's mother. What a gift! Thanks so much for hosting today.

Jone, you inspire me to start writing what I had hoped to have in the works. As I read through your poem, I thought of it as a prayer to spark the day with an optimistic, kaleidoscope perspective. May you continue to flourish and enrich the lives of others, like Johnny's Mom. I know that Mom appreciates your words and the fact that you wanted to honor her son. Good luck with your WIP. Thank you for hosting. I plan on starting my post and hope to have my Winter's Embrace Gallery unveiled soon.

What a bubbling over exciting post Jone! Congrats on completing your draft on Johnny this month, I'm looking forward to reading it in the future. Thanks for sharing "THIS MORNING" that's so full of hope, and intertwined with nature and her wonders.
And you've spread some joy my way with Helen Frost's book, what an adventure I will take with that, appreciations! My address is the same. Thanks also for hosting the roundup! xox

Congratulations, Jone! That's one heck of an accomplishment to finish your WIP draft. I didn't realize it was inspired by a former student. A beautiful gift to his mom and to the world! Your poem in IMPERFECT II is so soothing. I'm sure it, too, will be a balm its readers. And finally, thanks so much for Sally Walker's book—I'm feeling very lucky, indeed! I'll email my address.

Jone, thank you for all the poemy goodness here today. All the best as "Like Climbing a Tree" goes to the next chapter. I'm sure that was a major goal accomplished with the response of Johnny's mom. Blessings to her as she continues to cope. Your "This Morning" poem is full of light and hope. Thank you! Thanks for hosting.

Thank you, Jone, for your beautiful poem. Beginning the day is hard for me, I am more of a night person, so you have given me many hopeful and joyful prompts. The photo is gorgeous. Thanks also for hosting. Many good thoughts coming your way.

Thanks for hosting, Jone! My, you have a lot going on! Your poem sounds like it could be a prayer (I hope you don't mind me saying that.) My favorite line is the last. At times in my life, I've worked to cultivate joy and with a move imminent, it's important for me to remember to flourish where I am. Thank you so much for sharing your poem, and congratulations on having it it Tabitha's book!

Jone -- It sounds like April has been a very productive month for you. Bravo! I wish I could say the same for my April, but I'm giving myself the grace to celebrate a few small successes. I, too, love the prayerful nature of your poem. Each and every day, I aspire to help my students to notice the wonders and curiosities of the earth. I'm going to hang this poem somewhere so I can start each day with it. Peace.

Jone, so happy to hear you continue with your WIP---I remember it well from our novel in verse class! I'm SO late to the party this month because I completely forgot to add to the roundup on Friday...but I thought I'd add my link today anyway---I'm in with a "in the style of Taylor Mali" poem.
